COURSE DESIGN

The course consists of three classes: Early winter, late winter/early spring, and spring (November). With very simple and illustrated explanations, in the classroom and in the field, each theoretical explanation will be accompanied by its practical application on pastures or annual crops.

First class
  • Importance and impact of pastoral production.
  • Factors affecting yield.
  • Successful experiences of some herdsmen in the fields.
Second class
  • Grass measurement. Different methods: use in practice. How to plan the rest period. Growth rates.
  • Spring: How to manage peak production, not lose grass and achieve high animal responses? Do we make reserves or try to feed the grass?
Third class
  • Did we do our management homework right? Did we measure the grass? Were there surpluses? Have the animals made any progress? What was the weight gain?
  • Pasture management in summer. Management of pure alfalfa in direct grazing.
